JELLYCAt Origins
I never meant to make so many hats. it was kind of an accident.. a happy accident.
In 2022, while I was working at a tailor. I spent a lot of time marking hems. so many hems. and I remember looking up at the tulip mermaid dresses and admiring the shape.
One day while shopping for textiles, I spotted a beautiful blue placemat set. I decided i could use it to make a hat and explore the tulip shape.
I went home and immediately went to work.i honestly do not remember why I chose to add ears, but i do remember thinking it was cool that they would spread over one of the tulip panels, like a real cat ear.
I didn’t think too much of it, but after using it in my photoshoot for the JELLY Silk Scarf, it was clear that you all wanted to see more of it.
The first JELLYCAT 1/1 drop debuted at Soho House as a part of my Pinkies Up Glove release. I displayed them like flowers hanging and potted in my JELLY “Garden.” I wish I had photos of this, but I dont :(
I watched in amazement as my friends gravitated towards their favorites and finally found the JELLY piece that they just HAD to have: wearing them daily, as all JELLY pieces are intended to be worn. Since then, over 100 1/1 JELLYCATs have been made (by me personally).
INK was created as a ready wear option for our JELLYCATs and you all have loved her so much that we are on our fourth fabric iteration. This hat has led so many of you to JELLY and it has been so cool to hear in what ways you all have discovered the brand. A reddit post, a paused YouTube Video and even on a mannequin in a NYC store…
Whether it is your first one or just an addition to your collection, we look forward to bringing you this iteration of the INK Hat!
Preorders are open until Feb 20.
